Aanthoni

Can I install windows 11 if my system meets minimum requirements?

Joren

Hi Aanthoni! Thank you for contacting us. My name is Joren and I'm a Microsoft Ambassador. To maximize your support experience, please refrain from closing this browser on your end and stay in front of the computer all the time. For your security, please do not provide sensitive information such as product keys, passwords, email addresses and credit card information in this chat.

Hi Aanthoni! I hope you're doing well. Could I have more details of the issue you are encountering?

Aanthoni

Sure. Actually, I received a notification update that my system meets the minimum requirements for Windows 11 but how do I go about with it ?

Joren

I understand.

Rest assured that I will do my best to assist with this matter.

Is the update available in your Settings Update & Security?

Aanthoni

Yup, it tells me Great news this PC can run Windows 11

Specific timings for when it will be offered can vary as we get it ready for you.

It also mentions that the PC meets minimum system requirements for Windows 11

Joren

I see. Thanks for sharing these details. This means that the upgrade will be offered in the next few days, weeks, or months. I would ask you to extend your patience and wait until this update is offered in Update & Security in your Settings.

Aanthoni

But is it possible to install it from the windows website?

Joren

In the meantime, if you wish to get this now, you can use the Update Assistant tool available in the Microsoft website.

Yes, it is possible

Aanthoni

but is it safe to do so ?

and will I have to back up all my data

Joren

Yes, it is safe

click on the link to start the download, once completed run the file to get started with the installation

Aanthoni

Will I have to back up all my data and is there a possibility that something can go wrong ?

Joren

You'll have the option to keep your files during the process. This will be asked, and you should select the option to Keep files if you want them to be kept.

Before you start the process, please make sure you disconnect any external hardware/storage not needed for basic functioning and third-party security software as these can interfere during the installation.

Aanthoni

Is it possible for me to share my screen to identify which apps should I specifically disconnect?

Joren

If you're worried about it, you can actually setup a restore point on your system so you can revert the system to its previous state.

I'm sorry but I don't have the facility to perform a remote access to your PC.

Aanthoni

No, I mean if something does go wrong will my system basically be dead

Joren

This is safe, we haven't heard anything yet incident like what you've mentioned.

Aanthoni

Ok but what is the difference if I wait for it to pop up in my updates

Like will that be safer or something

Joren

If you wait, you can still receive the future updates and builds for your Windows 10.

Yes, as you will still have the opportunity to install the future updates and builds that are compatible for Windows 11.

Only third-party security/antivirus software should be uninstalled.

Do you have any?

Aanthoni

McAfee ?

Joren

That's right

Aanthoni

Ok and how exactly should I disable them ?

Joren

In Control Panel, you should have the option to uninstall them.

Aanthoni

Oh, ok because McAfee was inbuilt, I am unable to uninstall it

Joren

Select on the blue link that says, "Uninstall Programs" and there you can uninstall it.

Yes, you should be able to remove it from there. If you can't, I would recommend contacting the MacAfee for help as some security software needs a special software for them to be removed.

Aanthoni

also, what about AdBlock and web advisor for McAfee

Joren

if they are related to MacAfee then i would recommend removing them as well.

Aanthoni

Okay but the McAfee web advisor was inbuilt with windows 10 and I don't think McAfee has a support chat, do they ?

Joren

I'm sure it was just preinstalled to your device when you acquired it, but it’s definitely not a Microsoft product.

Aanthoni

is MySQL and python and R a problem too ?

Joren

You should have the option to contact support on the app itself.

Are MySQL, python, and R security software too?

Aanthoni

no, they are programming languages command prompts

Joren

I see. You can leave them installed then.

Aanthoni

ok so now I only need to get rid of McAfee web advisor somehow and then I'm good to go

Joren

Yes, that's right

Aanthoni

Any idea how I go abt with that because I had tried that several times before

Joren

I'm sorry but we don't have the tools and resources to be able to help you on this. If you can contact MacAfee for help, please do so as they are the best team that can help.

Aanthoni

ok I have also had some issues with windows in the sense the disk space is always at 100 % when I start the laptop

Joren

I understand. Please give me one minute while i grab the fix for that.

Here are the steps to troubleshoot your disk To delete temporary files:

1.In the search box on the taskbar, type disk Cleanup, and select Disk Cleanup from the list of results.

2.Select the drive you want to clean up, and then select OK.

3.Under Files to delete, select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.

4.Select OK.

If you need to free up more space, you can also delete system files:

1.In Disk Cleanup, select Clean up system files.

2.Select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.

3.Select OK.

Aanthoni

is there any problem to install windows 11 if I have uninstalled internet explorer ?

Joren

It should not be a problem when you move to Windows 11.

Aanthoni

k.

and do I need to do any BIOS update before installation, or I can skip that

Joren

May I know how old the system is? Please press Windows key and R key, type msinfo32 and press enter. Find the BIOS date here and let me know it.

Aanthoni

17-10-2018

Joren

The new updates need an updated BIOS which should be at least of 2020. Don't worry, you don't need to pay or buy anything, the BIOS can be updated from the system manufacturer. Please get in touch with your device manufacturer to update the system BIOS for you, once the BIOS is updated, you will not face any issue with the Windows upgrade and updates.

Aanthoni

ok but I heard that it is risky to update bios ?

because I keep getting a windows popup to update my BIOS

so, is it safe to go ahead with the BIOS update ?

Joren

You can try your current Bios, but if something goes wrong during the installation then I would recommend considering updating the system bios.

Aanthoni

If something goes wrong, what do I do will it automatically revert to windows 10 ?

Joren

It should be safe as these are latest updates for your hardware.

Yes, it will stay to Windows 10 and the installation will not proceed with no harm to your computer.

Aanthoni

ok so conclusion I have to uninstall McAfee web advisor and go ahead with windows 11 installation if there is a problem, I will have to update my BIOS and try installing it again ?

Joren

Yes, you can do that order.

Aanthoni

Ok thank you so much for all the help and support

Joren

No problem at all. Anytime :)

Aanthoni

Have a good day. Cheers

Joren

anything else I can help you with?

Aanthoni

No thank you once again

Joren

It's my pleasure to assist you today. Please don't hesitate to contact us again if you need help, we're always here for you.
